The speakers at the 23rd Annual Day commemoration on the theme “Social Service: Beacon of Hope”, held at Tagore Hall Srinagar called for fool proof protection to the public institutions from grabbing by unscrupulous elements besides skill based education, utilisation of expertise of learned senior citizens and comprehensive contribution for the welfare of orphans, widows, destitute and other vulnerable sections of the society. They also emphasized the need to safeguard the monetary and material resources donated by common people for the upliftment of economically weaker sections particularly orphans and widows.

Addressing the sizeable gathering of volunteers, donors, well wishers, students and representatives of various voluntary organisations, former Principal Secretary to Govt of J&K Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest, urged the NGOs and voluntary organizations to refrain from misappropriation of Zakat and other donations to avoid wrath and punishment from Allah. He strongly advocated skill based education of the poor and needy students supported by J&K Yateem Foundation and other humanitarian organisations for which the UT and central governments have launched hundreds of such schemes. He said the managements of welfare organizations should avail the benefits of such schemes to put the downtrodden students on the path of progress, dignity and self reliance.

Guest of Honour Muhammed Rafi, former Mission Director Department of Education Kashmir, described institutional failure, trust deficit and self centric mindset as bigger challenges to the social service sector. He called for initiating intense debate and discussion to curb such damaging practices for creating much more credible social service platforms.

Special Guest Dr Javaid Ahmad Khan, former Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir, emphasized the need for utilising the services and expertise of learned senior citizens that forms a formidable chunk of our society. He identified various emerging challenges other than those of orphans, widows and destitute, which need urgent attention of the social service organizations.

Special Guest Bashir Ahmad Haji, Director Finance, University of Kashmir, called for utilisation of all faculties for the welfare and good of the society. He enjoined upon people to contribute their bit to strengthen common humanitarian cause.

Octogenarian Dr A.S.Bali, former Chief Scientist SKUAST Kashmir, urged the people to enhance donation component by 10% annually. He stressed the need to work sincerely to earn the blessings of God.

Bashir Ahmad Mir, Chairman Human Aid Society Baramulla, complimented JKYF for its dedicated, sincere and pro people humanitarian work. He commended JKYF’s grass root level volunteers for their unflinching and selfless contribution during 2005 Earthquake, 2014 Floods and COVID 19 pandemic.

On the occasion, the Annual Report titled EHSAAS was released by the dignitaries.

Chairman JKYF Mohammad Rafiq Lone in his vote of thanks briefed the audience about the activities and various welfare and rehabilitation programmes. He wholeheartedly thanked the guest speakers, volunteers, well wishers, students and other participants for making the programme a laudable success. He informed that JKYF expended approx ₹ 04 Crores among 4300 beneficiaries during F.Y. 2022-23. Besides, approximately 60K patients and attendants were assisted under Health Sector services by the Foundation, he added.

Earlier, JKYF Permanent Accountability Commission (PAC) member and former Chairman Mohammed Ahsan Rather in his welcome address enumerated the welfare programmes of the Foundation.

Two Baitul Hilal alumni Saqib Rehman and Aabid Nazir shared their experiences at Baitul Hilal.

Volunteers Hafiz Aabid Salam recited some verses from Holy Qur’an whileas Farooq Ahmad presented Naat (praise poetry of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The proceedings were conducted by Mohammad Amin Bhat, District Representative (DR) Pulwama and Sajjad Sarmadi, Tehsil Representative Bhaderwah
