Srinagar June 05: The Department of Youth Services & Sports (YSS), J&K, took part in the global observance of World Environment Day with an array of impactful initiatives across multiple districts. Speaking about the importance of celebrating such days, Joint Director Kashmir of the Department Waseem Raja said that Young people should voluntarily take part in keeping their surroundings neat and clean. He added that we all should do our bit in ensuring that we would do everything possible to keep this universe safe from every types of pollution.
In Bandipora, under the guidance of Nazir Ahmad Bhat, DYSSO Bandipora, a series of activities were organized, including rallies, debates, painting competitions, and sanitation works, engaging approximately 8,000 students from different schools. The district also witnessed the Inter Zonal District Level Yogasana event for U14/U17 Boys at HSS Nadihal.
Meanwhile, in Kupwara, Zahoor Ahmad Wani, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, led the organization of Zonal Level Activities. These activities encompassed U/14 badminton competitions, Kho Kho Girls competitions, and sports and recreational activities for tribal communities, promoting sportsmanship and teamwork.
DYSSO Baramulla actively promoted environmental awareness through a Bicycle Rally organized by Zone Dangerpora and Zone Sopore, emphasizing major environmental issues. Dr. Fareeda Khanum, BDC Sopore, honored the event as the Chief Guest.

*Central Kashmir* witnessed diverse sports activities in Ganderbal, Budgam, and Srinagar. Ganderbal celebrated World Environment Day under the Beat Plastic Pollution Campaign, conducting cultural programs, rallies, and seminars across various schools. Budgam organized rallies, debates, seminars, and inter-school competitions in different zones. Srinagar conducted inter-school competitions in Chess, Carom, and Badminton across multiple zones.

*In South Kashmir*, YSS Pulwama organized a grand sports Mela for tribal athletes, attracting a massive gathering. Anantnag organized sports competitions for tribal youth and inter-school badminton tournaments. Shopian conducted cricket matches and Kho Kho matches, while Kulgam observed World Environment Day with a special event at Girls Model Higher Secondary School.
These initiatives by the Department of Youth Services & Sports showcase a commitment to environmental consciousness and youth development, paving the way for a greener and healthier future.
