JANUARY, JAMMU 17: Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Avny Lavasa today attended the Health-cum- Eye Check up camp organized by the Motor Vehicles Department, Jammu under the overall supervision of Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra, here at Warehouse, Bikram Chowk.  Transport Commissioner, J&K Rahul Sharma; Chairman, All J&K Transport Welfare Association, S. Ajit Singh; Chief Medical Officer, Jammu Dr. S. Harbaksh Singh; ARTO, Board of Inspection (P) Esha Chib; ARTO (HQ), Mohd. Saleem; ARTO, Board of Inspection (G) Pawan Sharma were also present on the occasion.  Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that one of the simple measures for dealing with the growing traffic problems in cities is following traffic regulation and management. As many road accidents are caused by the improper management of the traffic, the need of the hour is to provide proper education and awareness on road traffic management rules and regulations to the drivers, she added.  Stating that road accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the country, she urged the drivers to follow traffic rules and take all safety measures before driving the vehicle on road. She further asked the drivers and conductors to avail full benefits of the Health-cum-Eye check up camp and directed the department to organize more such camps for the well being of the drivers.  Transport Commissioner J&K, in his address, stressed on the drivers to follow speed limit during driving, adding that Road safety and health of drivers are interconnected. He said that a person’s fitness to drive can be affected by a medical condition, by temporary illness as well as substances such as alcohol and by the environment in which they work, drive and live.  It, therefore, becomes more important that Health-cum-eye check up camps are organized for them regularly, he stressed.  Earlier, the RTO presented the welcome address and formally welcomed the participants while the vote of Thanks was presented by ARTO, Board of Inspection (P).  Among others, President Jammu- Kathua Bus Service, Kuldeep Singh, President Jammu-R.S.Pura Labh Singh Chib, President Mini-Bus Union, Vijay Singh Chib, President, Jammu-Poonch Bus Service, Sher Singh, President Taxi Union, Railway station, Davinder Choudhary, Secretary, All J&K Transport Welfare Association , Sanjeev Choudhary, large number of drivers, conductors and general public participated in the event.
