Asserting that “Jammu has always remained on hit list of Pakistan”, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh today said that militants wanted to establish hideouts in Jammu to spread militancy as also to transport arms to Kashmir and other places after smuggling them from Pakistan.

“The arrested Lashkar-e-Mustafa Commander is being questioned by Jammu police. We have got some leads that they wanted to spread militancy in Jammu areas, and also to establish their hideouts in the winter capital,” the DGP said while speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function, here.

The J&K Police Chief said: “The militants had plans to receive arms and ammunition which are smuggled from Pakistan, and then send them to Kashmir and other places of J&K.”

“However, I am happy that J&K Police have been working in coordination to meet any such challenge,” he said. He said Jammu has always remained on the hit list of Pakistan that is why they try to target religious places.

The DGP said: “The militants have targeted religious places. A grenade was thrown towards a temple in Rajouri, recently.”

The DGP said that Pakistan was trying to smuggle drugs from across the LoC into Kashmir’s Kupwara and Baramulla, and Jammu region’s Rajouri and Poonch districts; and from across the International Border into Samba district.

“We have tried everything and caught the narcotics consignments even as they also have many other means to smuggle consignments,” he said while emphasizing that “Police have to continue to fight against the drugs in a coordinated manner.”

He said that Pakistan wanted to hit J&K by using drugs in three ways: “They want to push youth towards militancy, destroy them by making them drug addictives and to root money earned from drugs to fuel militancy in J&K.”
