Wildlife Department organizes cleanliness drive “Save Hokersar Save Srinagar”

SRINAGAR, MAY 14: The  Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir in joint collaboration with stake holding departments, civil society groups, N.G.O’s, Educational  institutions  is observing the “Save Hokersar-Save Srinagar” campaign under the banner “TAWAZUN”.

The aim of the campaign is to launch a comprehensive cleanliness drive in and around Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve and to maintain the ecological characteristics of this world famous wetland (RAMSAR Site).

Accordingly, today on 14th of May 2022 a cleanliness drive was conducted in & around Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve in which, Safai-karamcharies of Municipal committees of Srinagar, Budgam & Narbal, Range Officer, lakes along with his field staff, Students of  Gandhi Memorial School, Boys Higher Secondary School, Soibugh, N.I.T School Soibugh, different N.G.O’s, volunteers, Forest Protection Force personals of K-01 & K-03 and representatives of different stake holding departments participated.

The event was flagged off by Principal Gandhi Memorial College, Srinagar.

During the drive solid waste of about (4 to5) trucks of load was collected from Soibugh, Daharmuna Playground, Narbal Sozeith Crossing, Zainakoot etc and was then accordingly disposed off, which involved mass efforts of 200 persons.

At the end of today’s event, Ms. Ifshan Dewan, Wildlife Warden, Wetlands Division Kashmir, thanked the participants and highlighted the role of stakeholders in protection and conservation of the “Hokersar Wetland Conservation Reserve”.
