REASI, APRIL 14: District Administration Reasi on Thursday organised an interactive cum awareness session on Bamboo Craft here at KVK Reasi.

A large number of women farmers from village Chapanoo, Panchayat Kanjali and adjoining areas turned up to learn about bamboo craft and products made by Neera Sarmah known as the Bamboo lady of India.

Sarmah interacted with the local women associated with the bamboo craft and showed beautiful bamboo jewellery made by her and encouraged participants to create, conserve and earn from bamboo. She narrated her success story and inspired the local women farmers to attain independent stature in society by skill up-gradation.

She displayed a large number of products made  of bamboo like necklace, Jhumkas, pendant sets,  ear rings,  Rakhis, combs, rings, cosmetic mirror. She also raised slogans like “Ek baans se Ek lakh” and “Sone se kam nahi, khone ka gam nahi”.

The DC Reasi Babila Rakwal exhorted the participants to learn a lesson from the success story of bamboo women Neera to become self-reliant. She further conveyed that this interaction will be followed by training of the women folk in the coming months under the guidance of Neera Sarmah. “Some eligible persons shall be trained as master trainers to further impart training to women farmers in other villages like Mallad, Kheral, etc” the DC said.

Among others Dr. Banarsi from KVK, Sarpanch Kanjali Sukhdev Singh, Jugal Kishore from NRLM and other participants spoke on the occasion.
