GDC Udhampur organises skill oriented workshop on Hydroponics

UDHAMPUR, MARCH 14: A one day skill oriented workshop on Hydroponics, a tool to mitigate the Problem of Receding Cultivable Land, was organized by the Department of Botany and Science Club of Government Degree College Udhampur, here today.

The College Principal Prof. Subhash Chander Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.

  Head of Department of Physiology Division of Basic Sciences of SKUAST Jammu Dr. Gurdev Chand was the resource person.

At the outset, Prof. Seema Kotwal Convener Science club, presented the welcome address and introduced the resource person to the participants. She deliberated upon the importance of learning the Hydroponics technique.

Chief Guest Prof. Subhash Chander Sharma congratulated the organisers and insisted on all present to learn and promote the technique among other students and the society at large.

The resource person, Dr. Gurdev Chand, gave an impressive and detailed presentation on various steps involved in Hydroponics and how it can change the life of the people to get healthy food. He insisted on adopting new techniques for which SKUAST Jammu is lending a helping hand to all stakeholders.

The lecture was followed by Hands on Training Cum Demonstration of the various steps and techniques required for the Hydroponics.

The participant students and staff  members Prof. Jawaid Sarver, Prof. Rosy Bamba, Prof. Sonia Raj, Dr. Bandana Mazal and  Dr. Swarn Singh sought clarification of their doubts regarding the setting  up of Hydroponics.

The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Romesh Kumar Atri, HOD Botany.

The programme was anchored by Prof. Shivani Sharma and attended by a number of NCC, NSS and other students of department of Botany, Zoology, Sericulture and humanities.
