Address electricity, water and ration shortage: Mohammad Dilawar Mir
Srinagar January 23; Apni Party senior leader and former minister Mohammad Dilawar Mir on Saturday urged the administration to take immediate relief measures in view of the fresh spell of snowfall in Kashmir division.

In a statement issued here, Mir said that the people in Kashmir Valley are yet to come out from the miseries inflicted on them by the weather vagaries and the administration must now take some concrete steps to address the crisis like situation.

“There is acute scarcity of drinking water in many parts of the valley, especially in the Srinagar city. Similarly, people are suffering immensely by the electricity curtailment. And the same is the case with other basic amenities,” he remarked.

He said the disruption in electric supply in different parts of the valley is giving sleepless nights to the people in view of the below freezing temperatures. Mir urged the administration to stay alert in case of the circumstances that may arise due to the fresh snowfall.

“The electric supply is still disruptive in various parts of the valley and the concerned department appears to be making repairs at a snail’s pace. The people are facing immense problems and now meteorological department has predicted a new spell of snowfall. I urge the government to stay prepared and in case of emergencies the concerned departments should take prompt actions” Mir concluded.

He also asked the divisional administration to ensure availability of essential commodities in the Valley especially in the far off places including border districts like Baramulla and Kupwara.

Referring to the extension in ban on 4G internet in Kashmir, Mir said the constraint on high-speed mobile internet up to February 6th for security reasons is appalling.

Mir took a strong jibe over the decision and termed the move as an “extension of injustice and loss for the student and business community in Jammu and Kashmir.”

“Time and again security threat perceptions are cited for snapping 4G internet in J&K but for how long will this serve as an incontestable reason. Government needs to tackle the security threats but not at the cost of causing persistent inconvenience to the general masses” Mir demanded.
