Srinagar, Jan 28: Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Friday conducted an anti-encroachment drive in parts of Srinagar city and removed encroached pavements.
The drive that was led by Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation Aamir Athar Khan was conducted in Mahaaraja Bazar, Hari Singh High Street, Jahangir Chowk, and other parts.
Shopkeepers in many areas of the city have encroached upon the pavements and walkways.
The demolition squad of SMC used iron rods and other equipment to demolish the encroached pavements. Shopkeepers had taken up the space in front of their shops to display wares, obstructing the movement of pedestrians. Some had occupied pavements meant for the general public.
Commissioner SMC Aamir Athar Khan said that it is unfortunate that some shopkeepers have constructed concrete platforms and staircases in front of their shops. “I once again appeal to shopkeepers not to encroach roads and pavements. Stern action will be taken against encroachers,” he said. (KNT)
