Day 5: Unabated cold wave continues in Kashmir, Qazigund coldest at minus 9.0°C

Srinagar, 17 Jan: The cold wave continued in Kashmir Valley for a fifth consecutive day on Sunday, with the minimum temperature in Srinagar city settling at minus 7.6 degrees Celsius – 6 degrees colder than normal.

Qazigund – the gateway town to the valley – recorded a minimum of 9.0 degrees Celsius compared to minus 10.0 degrees Celsius a day earlier.

It recorded the lowest temperature in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pahalgam tourist destination, which also serves as a base camp for the annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 8.7 degrees Celsius – up from the previous night’s minus 9.4 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Gulmarg tourist spot settled at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius – up from minus 5.5 degrees Celsius the night earlier.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag, in the south, minus 8.7 degrees Celsius.

As per Kashmir Weather, an independent weather forecaster, cold wave is likely to continue for next 3-4 more days, with a chance of rain and snow from 23 January
