Lal chowk road to be named after deceased M L Bindroo

Srinagar, Oct 06: The road from Haft Chinar Chowk to Jehangir Chowk would be named after famous chemist Makhan Lal Bindroo who was killed by unknown gunmen on Tuesday evening in his medical shop at Iqbal park in Lal chowk.

Taking to micro-blogging site, Srinagar Mayor Junaid Mattu said the road would be renamed as a tribute to Bindroo’s contribution to the society.

Mattu said a resolution to this effect will be formally proposed in the SMC General Council.

“The road from Haft Chinar Chowk to Jehangir Chowk (where Bindroo Medicate is located) will be named Shaheed Makhan Lal Bindroo Road as a tribute to his contributions to society. A resolution to this effect will be formally proposed in the SMC General Council. (sic),” Mattu tweeted.

Unknown gunmen fired at Bindroo, 68, when he was at his shop near Iqbal Park area of Srinagar, at around 7 pm on Tuesday.

Bindroo had multiple bullet injuries and died on his way to the hospital.

“With family of Shaheed Makhan Lal Bindroo Sahab at the cremation ground at Karan Nagar. Conveyed to them Srinagar’s gratitude for decades of selfless service to the society by Bindroo Sahab and assured them we would honour his name, his contributions and his memory.(sic), Mattu said, while sharing his picture with the bereaved family on his twitter handle.
