“Ladakh will have its first ever Waqf Council soon”: Dr Darakhshan Andrabi Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today met Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Shri R K Mathur at Rajbhnivas in Leh. She was accompanied by Central Waqf Council Secretary Shadab Zeb Khan & Central Waqf Committee members Haneef Ali, S Munawari Begum. Dr Darakhshan Andrabi presented a Memorandum to the LG Shri Mathur regarding the constitution of Ladakh UT Waqf Council under Central Waqf Act for which the Ministry of Minority Affairs has issued notification recently. She discussed at length the modalities for the Waqf constitution in Ladakh. The Lieutenant Governor thanked Dr Andrabi & other Waqf delegates for the visit and assured about immediate constitution of the first ever Waqf Board for the UT. Later Dr Andrabi spoke to the press and said that Ladakh will have its first ever Waqf Board soon. “I am convinced that by constitution of the Waqf Body in Ladakh, the shrines and other assets will be managed in a better way. Ladakh is emerging as a world level tourist destination and these shrines & Muslim centers will also be a big attraction for the visitors,” said Chairperson of Waqf Development Committee. LG Mathur assured Dr Andrabi that the shrines of ladakh UT will be developed as Model places of Pilgrimage attraction. She also had a detailed meeting with the Member of Parliament from Ladakh Shri Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and discussed developmental initiatives of the government and mechanism of removal of hurdles in the process. She also met many public delegations from a cross section of people and listened to their issues. She assured the delegations that she will take up their issues with the UT Administration & with the central government too.

‘We need innovations and they are required as per the need of the society’: Prof Sehgal

Srinagar, Aug 27: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) on Friday hosted an interactive session with ex-president Mahindra & Mahindra,SIAM, Rajan Wadhere on innovation, industry, and regional development.

The event was organized by Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IIEDC), Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management of the Institute under the chairmanship of Director NIT Srinagar, Prof (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal.

Mr. Rajan Wadhera, Ex. President Mahindra and Mahindra, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has 39 years of experience in the Automotive and Farm equipment sectors was the chief guest on the occasion.

Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. Sehgal said innovations come from different sections of society by using technology and new ideas of thinking to add value to existing ideas.

He said there are problems in every sector to which solutions have to be found. Over the past several decades, there has been a paradigm shift in advanced technology including the transport sector.

“As a technological Institute, we need innovations and they are required as per the need of the society. There is a need to think, innovate, and improve our ideas. From hybrid vehicles that use two or more distinct types of power to technological advancements in the present vehicle market, there are innovations everywhere,” Prof Sehgal said.

He also expressed his gratitude to Head IIEDC, Prof. Saad Parvez, and stated that he is a big motivator and influencer. It is not easy to get a galaxy of people under a single roof for our students,” he said.

On behalf of NIT Srinagar, Prof. Sehgal also presented a token of appreciation to Mr. Rajan Wadhera, Mrs. Wadhera, Dr. Shabir Hassan, Mr. Abdul Hameed, and Dr. Sheikh Fayaz.

In his keynote address, Mr.Wadhera delivered on Innovation, Industry and regional development. He said science and knowledge put into practical use to solve problems or invent useful tools is called technology.

“The biggest driver of growth in the world will be innovations and nothing else. The next century is going to be the century of innovations and all those who are part of this journey will benefit from the growth and get the recognition while  who will be not part of this, they will be laggards,”  he said.

Mr. Wadhera said in the industry we used deliver industry output from the concepts and concepts make you ready. He also spoke about how the Indian auto-moto industry evolved and how innovations happened.

Earlier, Dr. Shabir Hassan, Research Scientist, Harvard University, USA presented his presentation on the meaning of scientific innovations and their difference with normal innovations.

He will be focused on three things including, the dogma of heal, feed, and fuel. Heal by extending lives, feed the world, and fuel to protect the environment. In other words, scientific entrepreneurship is a conference science and business.

“Unlike entrepreneurship, scientific entrepreneurship is entirely academic and it is shadowed by scientific risks,” Dr. Shabir said.

While Dr. Sheikh Fayaz, Innovation researcher, Zhejiang University, China presented their presentations on scientific innovations and on the big story of the past two hundred years is the innovation.

Head, Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IIED), Professor Saad Parvez said that the Centre was established in 2016 and intend to take up the challenges of grass-root technologies, develop innovative ideas.

Apart from faculty members and students, the program was attended by Abdul Hamid Bhat, Owner of Rahim Motors Srinagar, Bashir Ahmad, President Aaraf Species, Syed Nadeem, representing National Innovation Foundation (NIF) and guests from the local industry, faculty members, students from TIED and MBA programs.

After the presentations, the guests had one to one interaction with the students, faculty of the NIT Srinagar.
