Srinagar, Oct 29 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Thursday paid tribute to 1,621 police martyrs, saying their sacrifices continued to inspire the force’s efforts to promote peace and engage youth in constructive activities, while announcing Martyrs Memorial football and hockey tournaments in their honour.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ cycle race organised by J&K Police at Police Golf Course near Dal Lake, as per news agency JKNS, the DGP said sporting activities played an important role in promoting discipline, physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among young people.
He said cycling was not merely a fitness activity but also helped instil discipline among youth, while participation in sports could help reduce mobile phone addiction and excessive screen time.
Prabhat described youth as an asset and the future of the nation, stressing that their aspirations and involvement in productive activities were vital for the country’s progress.
He said J&K Police remained committed to working with the younger generation and helping society address social evils, including drug abuse and gambling.
The DGP said the police, in coordination with the administration, were organising sporting activities at the district level to encourage greater youth participation. He also referred to the encouraging participation in recent events, including the Kashmir Marathon and ‘Jashn-e-Dal’.
Prabhat said several sporting events were scheduled in the coming days, including Martyrs Memorial football and hockey tournaments, to honour police martyrs and encourage young people to take part in sports. (JKNS)
