Anantnag, Oct 29 (JKNS): District Magistrate Anantnag has declared the elections of the District Bar Association Anantnag, held on October 27, 2026, null and void, citing violation of previous administrative orders and failure to fulfil mandatory requirements.
According to an order issued by the District Magistrate on October 28, as per news agency JKNS, the election process had been prohibited through an earlier order dated January 2, 2025, pending submission and verification of documents, including registration certificates, the organisation’s constitution and bye-laws, details of current and previous executive members, and financial records.
The order stated that the prohibition was reiterated on September 28, 2026, and remained in force. However, the administration came to know through social media that the association had conducted elections on October 27 without informing the office or obtaining the required permission.
The District Magistrate further stated that the elections had been conducted without fulfilling the prescribed conditions and in violation of the applicable provisions of the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and the Indian Trusts Act, 1882.
Consequently, the elections have been declared “null and void, ab initio and non-est in the eyes of law”, the order reads. (JKNS)
