Sopore, Oct 5 (JKNS): Hundreds of residents of Rashidabad area of Bomai on Monday staged a protest against the Jal Shakti Department over the shortage of drinking water, blocking the Bandipora-Kupwara road and disrupting vehicular movement.

The protesting residents told news agency JKNS that the area has been without a proper drinking water supply for the past one month, causing hardships to the local population.

The water supply was restored shortly after the protest. However, the residents alleged that the concerned department restores the supply for some time whenever they stage protests, after which the shortage re-emerges.

They demanded a permanent solution to the water shortage and urged the concerned department to ensure regular drinking water supply to the area.

Traffic movement on the road has remained halted for the past hour due to the protest, with buses and school buses stuck on both sides of the road, causing inconvenience to commuters and students.

A police team from Police Station Bomai reached the spot and intervened as the protest disrupted traffic movement. (JKNS)
