Srinagar, Sept 16 (JKNS): From treating complex coronary blockages and acute heart attacks to replacing diseased heart valves without conventional open-heart surgery, advances in interventional cardiology are opening new avenues for patients who were once considered difficult or high-risk to treat. Highlighting these evolving possibilities, Livasa Hospitals organised a media interaction in Srinagar on “Newer Frontiers in Interventional Cardiology”, led by renowned interventional cardiologist Dr. Harinder K Bali, Chairman – Cardiac Sciences, Livasa Hospitals.
During the interaction, Dr. Bali discussed how technological advances, improved techniques and multidisciplinary cardiac care are transforming the management of complex cardiovascular diseases. With more than 38 years of experience and over 20,000 coronary interventions as primary operator, Dr. Bali has been associated with some of the significant developments in interventional cardiac care in the region, including the introduction of primary angioplasty for the management of heart attacks.
The discussion covered a broad spectrum of advanced interventions that can provide appropriately selected patients with minimally invasive treatment options, including primary angioplasty, complex PCI and CHIP interventions, TAVI/TAVR, CRT-P and CRT-D, ICD implantation, carotid artery stenting, subclavian artery angioplasty and stenting, aortic stenting, peripheral arterial angioplasty and stenting, below-knee interventions, endovascular stent grafting for aortic aneurysms and selected aortic dissections, as well as Impella-supported high-risk coronary interventions.
Dr. Bali also highlighted the importance of individualised treatment planning, particularly for patients with complex coronary artery disease, previous bypass surgery, advanced age, heart failure, multiple comorbidities and patients who may not be suitable for conventional surgery. He emphasised that advances in interventional cardiology are not about replacing surgery in every case, but about expanding the range of evidence-based options available to appropriately selected patients.
Mr Anurag Yadav, CEO, Livasa Hospitals, said,
“The rapid evolution of cardiac sciences is changing what is possible for patients with complex heart conditions. Dr. Bali’s extensive experience in complex interventional cardiology represents the depth of clinical expertise available within our cardiac programme. This was an important platform to create awareness about these newer possibilities and encourage patients to seek timely expert evaluation.”
Dr Abhishek Garg, Facility Director, Livasa Hospital Mohali, said,
“Interventional cardiology has progressed tremendously. Today, several advanced procedures can offer minimally invasive alternatives for appropriately selected patients, while comprehensive heart-team evaluation helps determine when an intervention, surgery or a combination of approaches is most suitable. At Livasa Hospital Mohali, we remain committed to strengthening advanced cardiac care through clinical expertise, technology and coordinated critical care support.”
