GCW M.A. Road Observes Suicide Prevention Day

Srinagar, September 15: The Department of Psychology, Government College for Women, M.A. Road, Srinagar, organised a Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme to promote awareness about emotional well-being, timely intervention, empathy and the importance of seeking help.

The programme featured poetry recitations by Ms. Taneem and Dr. Misbah Rafiq, highlighting human connection, acceptance and the importance of listening without judgment.

A major highlight was a Mock Parliament on “Documentation of Suicide Bill, 2026,” in which students debated issues related to suicide documentation, responsible media reporting, public interest and justice.

Students also presented a skit titled “Changing the Narratives,” highlighting emotional distress and the role of counselling, family support, communication and timely intervention in suicide prevention.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Misbah Hassan. The event emphasised the collective responsibility of educational institutions, families and society in promoting mental well-being and creating supportive spaces for those experiencing emotional distress.
