Srinagar, Sept 2 (JKNS): A tourist was killed after a boulder rolled down a hillside and struck a tourist vehicle on the Khanbal-Pahalgam Road near Bumzoo shrine in Mattan area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said.

An official told news agency JKNS that an Innova vehicle bearing registration number JK01AT-8081, carrying six tourists from Pahalgam towards Anantnag, was hit by the boulder after it suddenly rolled down from the hillside.

The official said one tourist sustained critical injuries in the incident, while the remaining tourists, including the driver, escaped unhurt.

The injured tourist was immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The deceased was identified as R Himansu Prasad Rao, son of R Pala Krishna Rao, a resident of Ganjam, Odisha.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further proceedings are underway. (JKNS)
