Srinagar,Jan6; After offering to clear snow from emergency roads and highways to the authorities, the Kashmir Economic Alliance on Wednesday met the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and once again offered him to clear snow around hospitals. A delegation led by Co-Chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar called on Ghazanfar Ali, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and expressed anguish over the administration’s failure to clear snow from most of the roads in Srinagar. He said that in this regard, the Chief Engineer Mechanical had already made the offer on the telephone yesterday. However, no approval has been received from the management so far.
Co-Chairman of the Alliance said that the roads of emergency nature, especially the roads leading to the hospitals, should have been cleared on priority basis so that patients would not face any difficulties. He said that the responsibility of clearing snow on major roads and highways lies with the Public Works Department and However, both the departments acted negligently. He said that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation was still seen on the streets and did what it could despite having less staff. Dar said that in the past, the officers of the concerned departments used to assign work to the contractors on such occasions and the work was done, however, strict guidelines also tied the hands of the officers and the contractors owed money that had not been released for years.
