Budgam, Aug 22 (JKNS): MLA Beerwah Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani on Saturday reviewed the progress of ongoing development works being executed by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department and later inaugurated the newly macadamised road connecting Kalipora with Lalpora in Beerwah.
The MLA chaired a detailed review meeting with senior officers of the R&B Department at Town Hall Beerwah, during which the status of ongoing and proposed development works in the constituency was reviewed and various infrastructure-related issues were discussed.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir, SE R&B Circle Budgam, Principal Government Degree College Beerwah, Executive Engineer R&B Beerwah, Executive Engineer R&B Budgam, AEE R&B Beerwah, AEE R&B Parnewa, AEE R&B Khansahib, AEE Flood Control Narbal and other concerned officers.
During the meeting, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani sought detailed feedback from the officers regarding ongoing and proposed development works. Special focus was laid on road infrastructure, public facilities and connectivity projects aimed at addressing the basic needs of the people on a priority basis.
The MLA stressed the need for timely completion of development projects while maintaining the prescribed quality standards. He directed the officers to regularly monitor ongoing works, ensure effective coordination among concerned departments and complete all projects within the stipulated timelines.
He also emphasised that genuine public demands should be given priority and that shortcomings and deficiencies in existing infrastructure should be identified and addressed promptly. Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani said regular field-level monitoring was essential to ensure quality, transparency and accountability in public projects.
While appreciating the performance of the R&B Department, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani particularly praised the work carried out in the Peerwan–Kanashwas area last year and the progress being made there this year.
“I am very happy to say that the R&B Department did very good work in the Peerwan–Kanashwas area last year, and good work is also progressing this year. While every department has performed its work, the R&B performance has been number one,” he said.
He said that during the review meeting, new works requiring attention were identified, besides assessing areas where shortcomings and infrastructure deficiencies needed to be addressed on a priority basis.
“During the review meeting, we also assessed which new works need to be taken up, where there are shortcomings and where deficiencies need to be addressed. I put forward several demands before the Chief Engineer, and he assured us that all our genuine and appropriate demands would be fulfilled,” Dr. Wani said.
Later, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani visited the Kalipora–Lalpora area and inaugurated the newly macadamised road connecting the two areas. Officers of the R&B Department and local residents were present on the occasion.
R&B officials briefed the MLA about the road project and its importance in improving connectivity. The newly macadamised road is expected to provide smoother and better transportation facilities to residents and further strengthen connectivity with adjoining areas, particularly towards Khansahib.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani described the completion of the road as an important step towards strengthening infrastructure in the area. He said improved road connectivity would make daily travel easier for residents and benefit commuters travelling from Beerwah towards adjoining Khansahib areas.
He termed quality road infrastructure crucial for the overall development of the area and stressed the need for proper maintenance and timely repairs of roads to ensure long-term benefits for the public.
Local residents expressed happiness over the completion and macadamisation of the road and appreciated efforts to improve connectivity in the area. They said the new road would provide considerable relief to commuters and make transportation easier for the local population.
Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani reiterated his commitment to further strengthening public infrastructure in the Beerwah constituency and undertaking development works in accordance with the genuine needs and priorities of the people.
The review of R&B development works followed by the inauguration of the Kalipora–Lalpora road was described as another important step towards accelerating development activities in Beerwah and improving road connectivity, particularly with adjoining Khansahib areas. (JKNS)
