Budgam, Aug 21 (JKNS): Cardiff School, Charari Sharief, in collaboration with Markazi Adab and Sakafat, organised a grand literary function to mark the release of the book “My Treasure: The Light and Shadows of My Life”, authored by noted writer G.N. Adfar Ghulam Nabi.

The event was attended by distinguished personalities from the fields of literature, education, culture and social service, besides writers, intellectuals, educationists and people from various walks of life.

The event was graced by Mirwaiz Ameer-ud-Din and, Tahir Saleem, SSP Senior KPS officer, and G.N. Adfar Ghulam Nabi, noted writer and scholar of Sheikh-ul-Aalamiyat, and Dr Owais Matoo, Director, Cardiff School and District President of the Private Schools Association, Budgam.

Other prominent personalities present on the occasion included renowned short-story writer Muhammad Amin Butt, Professor Bashir Bashir, former Director, Markazi Noor University Kashmir, Dr Ghulam Nabi Halim, senior Waqf Board member and scholar of Sheikh-ul-Aalamiyat, Tahir Hamid, Principal, Government Higher Secondary School Nagam, and Ali Mohammad Shaida, Chairman, Holy Home School.

In their addresses, the speakers lauded the long literary contribution and writing journey of G.N. Adfar Ghulam Nabi. They observed that “My Treasure: The Light and Shadows of My Life” is not merely a book but an important literary work reflecting the author’s personal experiences, memories, observations, cultural values, emotions and various intellectual dimensions of life.

They said books based on personal experiences, social observations and realities of life play an important role in understanding the changing social, cultural and intellectual landscape of a society. Such writings preserve the experiences and emotions of an author and can also serve as valuable historical, social and intellectual documents for future generations.

Detailed discussions were also held on the need to promote literature, preserve cultural heritage and develop a culture of reading. The speakers said literature is an effective medium for transmitting a society’s language, history, traditions, values and collective memory from one generation to another. Kashmir has been the custodian of rich literary, scholarly and cultural traditions for centuries, and the present generation has a responsibility to preserve and carry forward this valuable heritage.

The speakers particularly emphasised the need to cultivate reading habits among students and young writers, strengthen their bond with books and encourage meaningful literary expression. They said that in the present era, encouraging young people to return to books and reading is an urgent necessity, as books play a fundamental role in broadening one’s outlook, developing intellectual maturity, fostering critical thinking and enabling a better understanding of society.

The participants described the newly released book as a valuable addition to contemporary literature and expressed hope that it would receive wide attention from readers and inspire young writers to document their experiences, thoughts, emotions and observations.

At the conclusion, the organisers thanked all the distinguished guests, writers, intellectuals and educationists for their participation. The participants appreciated the efforts of Cardiff School, Markazi Adab and Sakafat and other associates in promoting literary, cultural and educational activities in the area, and expressed hope that such programmes would continue to be organised in the future.
