Srinagar, Aug 7 (JKNS): PDP leader Iltija Mufti on Friday said she was willing to cooperate with the police investigation into the case registered over the recent Srinagar protest, while asserting that she has the legal right to peacefully seek restoration of Article 370.

Iltija made the remarks after appearing before Police Station Kothibagh for questioning in connection with the case related to the PDP protest against the abrogation of Article 370 and assault on a police cop.

Speaking to reporters after nearly two hours of questioning, as per news agency JKNS, Iltija said she had assured police of her cooperation with the inquiry.

“If an inquiry happens against me, I am willing to cooperate with them. But I am not the first girl or the last Kashmiri whom the police have summoned. I am here to fight for every Kashmiri. This is not my personal fight,” she said.

The PDP leader maintained that her protest was not illegal and asserted that raising the issue of Article 370 falls within her rights as an Indian citizen.

“Talking about Article 370 is my legal right. As an Indian citizen, I am entitled to fight peacefully, to wage a peaceful battle for the restoration of Article 370,” Iltija said.

She further said she would continue to raise issues concerning the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that her political campaign was not a personal matter.

The case relates to the PDP protest held in Srinagar against the abrogation of Article 370. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the alleged assault and obstruction of police personnel during the protest. (JKNS)
