Srinagar, Nov 7 (JKNS): The repatriation process of the mortal remains of Kashmiri student Adnan Altaf Rathar, who passed away in Cumilla, Bangladesh, on November 4, is nearing completion, with embalming underway and the body expected to reach India tomorrow, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) said on Saturday.
In a statement issued to news agency JKNS, the Association said, there are growing concerns over the delay in the repatriation of the mortal remains of Kashmiri student Adnan Altaf Rathar, who passed away on 4 November in Cumilla, Bangladesh. The delay has caused immense pain and anguish to his family, particularly his mother, who is also in Bangladesh and enduring an extremely difficult time.
The repatriation process has involved several mandatory formalities, including the post-mortem examination, Embassy NOC, embalming, packing and other necessary clearances. We have been consistently following up with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh and other relevant authorities to expedite the process. The matter was also escalated to the Bangladesh Government today through the intervention of a senior Indian journalists, statement reads, it reads.
To clarify the circumstances, Friday is an official holiday in Bangladesh. Despite the Indian High Commission’s efforts, arranging a government-authorised doctor for the embalming process proved difficult, as the doctors approached were unavailable. Given the condition of the mortal remains, embalming was mandatory before transportation. Airlines do not accept mortal remains for international transportation without the prescribed embalming procedure and documentation, it reads.
Statement reads that the post-mortem report has now been received, and the required NOC has also been issued. A doctor has been arranged, and the embalming process is currently underway. The Indian side has completed the necessary formalities, and the remaining process is being facilitated in coordination with the Bangladesh authorities.
We expect the remaining formalities, including packing and handover to the family, to be completed within the next couple of hours. Subject to the completion of these procedures and flight arrangements, we are hopeful that Adnan’s mortal remains will reach India tomorrow, it reads.
We fully understand the family’s pain and anguish. We remain in constant touch with the family and the concerned authorities and are making every possible effort to ensure Adnan is brought home with dignity at the earliest, statement reads.(JKNS)
