Budgam, July 23 (JKNS): The Karate Association of Budgam successfully held its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) at Cocoon Lounge Restaurant, Magam.
The Association is affiliated with the Amateur Karate Association of Jammu & Kashmir (AKAJK) and is recognized by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
The meeting was attended by coaches, referees, athletes, senior members, and other stakeholders from across Budgam district. During the AGM, members reviewed the Association’s activities, discussed future plans, and unanimously elected a new Executive Body to lead the organization in promoting karate and youth development across the district.

Ashraf- Joint Secretary: Mr. Showkat – Organising Secretary: Mr. Abid Hassan- Treasurer: Ms. Sameen- Referee Commissioner: Mr. Maqbool Mir- Legal Advisor: Advocate Rouf-ul-Hassan
The Executive Committee comprises Hakeem Aquib, Aijaz Ali, Rouf-ul-Hassan, Maqbool Mir, Zubair Ahmad, Hazim Nissar, Adil Najar, Faizan Ahmad, Bilal Ahmad, Syed Aquib, Zamid Riyaz, Ulfat Jan, and Insha Ayaz.
The Association also constituted its Women’s Commission, appointing Ms. Arooj Andrabi as President and Ms. Sameena as Secretary. The Commission aims to encourage greater participation of women in karate and provide leadership opportunities for female athletes.
The Social Media and Public Relations Team includes Mr. Junaid and Mr. Tanveer Ahmad, who will oversee the Association’s media relations, public communication, and digital outreach.
During the meeting, the Association honoured Budgam’s national-level karate players—Bilal Ahmad Mir (Panzan), Danish Nazir (Kanihama), Faizan Sofi (Kanihama), Sehrish Jaan, and Ulfat Bano—for their outstanding achievements and for bringing laurels to the district.
Addressing the gathering, newly elected President Mr. Farooq Ahmad Teli emphasized the importance of scientific coaching, grassroots talent identification, and strengthening karate clubs across Budgam. Vice President Dr. Farooq Ahmad highlighted the vital role of education, discipline, and sports in shaping responsible youth and reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to excellence in karate.
The Association also resolved to organize regular district championships, coaching camps, referee and coach education programmes, school outreach initiatives, and athlete development programmes in collaboration with the Amateur Karate Association of Jammu & Kashmir and the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to all members, coaches, referees, athletes, and supporters for their continued cooperation and dedication towards the growth and development of karate in Budgam. (JKNS)
