Srinagar, July 15 (JKNS): The District Magistrate, Baramulla, has imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 in Budibugh village of Pattan and adjoining areas ahead of the observance of 29th Muharram on July 15, citing apprehensions of breach of peace and disturbance to law and order.
According to an order issued by the District Magistrate, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the restrictions have been imposed following a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Budgam, highlighting the prevailing security scenario and escalating tensions between two groups in the area.
The SSP had recommended that no Muharram procession be allowed in the area on July 15 due to the sensitivity of the situation.
As per the order, the restrictions will remain in force from 8:30 PM on July 14 until 10:00 PM on July 15, 2026.
During this period, no assembly or congregation of four or more persons will be permitted in Budibugh and adjoining areas. The order also prohibits any Muharram procession, carrying of firearms or offensive weapons by unauthorised persons, and the use of loudspeakers or sound amplification systems without prior permission from the District Magistrate.
The administration said the restrictions have been imposed to maintain peace and tranquillity and prevent any imminent danger to life and property. (JKNS)
