Srinagar, July 13 (JKNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, J&K, has arrested a wanted and alleged serial fraudster involved in multiple cheating and forgery cases across Kashmir. The accused, against whom 11 criminal cases are registered, was apprehended while evading arrest in a long-pending employment fraud case and has been remanded to judicial custody by a Srinagar court before being lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, EOW Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, J&K, has successfully executed a long-pending arrest warrant against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir and a resident of Lashtiyal, Kalaroos, Kupwara.

The arrest warrant was issued by the Hon’ble Court of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 17/2015 registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B RPC at Police Station Crime Branch Kashmir. Upon completion of the investigation, a charge sheet had been filed before the Hon’ble competent court.

The accused is a notorious and habitual offender, with 11 other cases involving cheating and the use of fake and forged employment documents registered against him across Kashmir. Of these, four cases are currently under investigation, while seven have already been charge-sheeted before the Hon’ble Court.

Acting on credible inputs, the EOW apprehended the accused, who was produced before the Hon’ble Court and remanded to judicial custody. He has been lodged in Central Jail, Srinagar, in compliance with the court’s orders.

FIR NO.: 02/2020 in police station Maisuma. FIR NO.: 24/2022 in police station Kupwara. FIR NO.: 10/2025 in police station EOW Kashmir. FIR NO.: 42/2025 in police station Pantha Chowk. FIR NO.: 46/2025 in police station Lal Bazar. FIR No.: 114/2025 in police station Kupwara. FIR NO.: 12/2026 in police station EOW Kashmir. FIR No.: 13/2026 in police station EOW Kashmir. FIR No.: 18/2026 in police station EOW Kashmir.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Kashmir, of the Crime Branch, J&K, appeals to the general public to remain vigilant against individuals involved in cheating, forgery, and job-related fraud.

Citizens are advised not to fall prey to false promises of government employment or forged appointment letters and other fraudulent documents. Anyone who comes across such fraudulent activities or suspects any person of indulging in similar offences is requested to report the matter immediately to the nearest police station or the Crime Branch, J&K, so that prompt legal action can be taken.
