Srinagar, July 8 (JKNS): The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra on Wednesday recorded its largest-ever single-day departure from Jammu, with 9,837 pilgrims leaving the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in a convoy of 361 vehicles for the twin base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal, officials said.
Officials told news agency JKNS that the seventh batch comprised 5,337 pilgrims travelling in 188 vehicles via the traditional Pahalgam route, while 4,500 devotees in 173 vehicles departed for the shorter Baltal route.
The batch included 6,684 men, 2,730 women, 21 children, 320 sadhus, 80 sadhvis and two transgender devotees, marking the highest single-day movement of pilgrims since the commencement of this year’s Yatra.
A heavy rush of devotees was witnessed at the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas from the early morning hours, with pilgrims from different parts of the country assembling to undertake the sacred pilgrimage to the Holy Cave Shrine.
The annual pilgrimage is being conducted under a multi-layered security arrangement, with extensive logistical support from the civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CAPFs, health services and other departments.
The 57-day Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra commenced on July 3 and is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. (JKNS)
