Jammu, July 7 (JKNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday asserted that the BJP would form the government in Jammu and Kashmir in the near future, expressing confidence that the party would expand its presence across the Kashmir Valley.
Addressing party workers during his two-day visit to Jammu, as per news agency JKNS, Nabin said, “Like Jammu, the lotus will bloom in Kashmir as well and Jammu and Kashmir will have a BJP government in the near future.”
According to details available with news agency JKNS, Nabin’s visit coincided with the 125th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, to whom he paid floral tributes.
He said Mookerjee devoted his life to strengthening the unity of the country and that his vision for Jammu and Kashmir was fulfilled after decades.
“The BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi accomplished Mookerjee’s vision by ending the special constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir and fully integrating the region with the rest of the country,” he said.
Highlighting the changes after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the BJP president said previous governments had created an atmosphere where hoisting the national flag at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk was considered a challenge to peace.
“The situation has changed under the Modi government and today the Tricolour flies in Lal Chowk without fear,” Nabin said.
He further said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir were making their mark in sports and several other fields, transforming the image of the region from one associated with unrest to one recognised for achievement and progress.
He maintained that the constitutional changes of 2019 brought “real freedom” and opened new opportunities for the people, while adding that the Centre’s welfare initiatives had helped millions across the country rise above poverty.
Earlier in the day, Nabin was accorded a warm welcome by hundreds of BJP workers upon his arrival in Jammu. He also reviewed the organisational functioning of the party and discussed strategies to further strengthen the BJP’s presence in the Kashmir Valley.
On Tuesday, the BJP chief is scheduled to visit the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine before paying tributes to Pandit Prem Nath Dogra at Dogra Chowk. He will also hold separate meetings with BJP Members of Parliament, legislators and former elected representatives. (JKNS)
