Srinagar, July 2 (JKNS): The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag on Thursday ordered the immediate closure of the Sinthan-Kishtwar Road for all vehicular traffic after recent flash floods and cloudbursts caused extensive damage at multiple locations, rendering the route unsafe for commuters.

According to an order issued by the SDM Kokernag, a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS, the road has suffered severe damage at several stretches due to recent flash floods and cloudbursts.

The order stated that the damaged road poses a serious threat to the lives of commuters because of the increased risk of landslides, road subsidence, falling debris, and further deterioration owing to adverse weather conditions.

It further said that, in the interest of public safety and to prevent any untoward incident, the movement of all vehicles on the Sinthan-Kishtwar Road has been prohibited with immediate effect.

The order added that the road will remain completely closed for vehicular traffic until further orders and will be reopened only after the damaged stretches are restored and declared fit for movement by the competent authorities. (JKNS)
