An official from the Traffic Department told news agency JKNS that with the first batch of pilgrims scheduled to leave Jammu on July 2, no Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) movement will be allowed from Qazigund towards Jammu and Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after 7:00 PM on July 1. However, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) will be permitted to ply till 11:00 PM.

The official said that on July 2, LMVs, private cars and High Passenger Service Vehicles (HPSVs) will be allowed to move from Nagrota towards Udhampur only after the tail of the up Yatra convoy crosses Jakheni. Similarly, vehicles from Qazigund towards Jammu will be allowed only after the down Baltal Yatra convoy crosses Marog. Commuters have been advised to follow the daily traffic advisories for exact timings.

The department further said that HMVs will be allowed on alternate days only, subject to the prevailing traffic situation. No HMV will be permitted from either Qazigund or Jakheni after 7:00 PM during the Yatra period.

Transporters carrying fresh produce, perishable goods and livestock have been advised to plan their loading and travel schedules accordingly.

The official added that after the prescribed cut-off timings, intra-district movement within Jammu and Kashmir will be permitted only after verification of valid photo identity cards, which all local commuters must carry during the Yatra period.

The Traffic Department has appealed to the public to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with the Traffic Police and Executive Police to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. (JKNS)
