Evian-Les-Bains (France), Jun 17 (JKNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized that lasting solutions to global conflicts can only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy and international cooperation, while calling for the security of maritime routes and the safety of seafarers amid growing tensions in West Asia.

Addressing an outreach session of the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, as per news agency JKNS, Prime Minister Modi said disruptions to maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz have adversely affected the global economy and highlighted the need to protect those engaged in international shipping.

“We firmly believe that lasting solutions to conflicts can only be found through dialogue, diplomacy and international cooperation,” Modi said while addressing world leaders, including US President Donald Trump.

The Prime Minister said the ongoing tensions in West Asia have caused loss of life and property in friendly countries and affected global trade routes.

“It is our responsibility to ensure the safety of seafarers who connect nations through global maritime trade. Maritime routes must remain secure and seafarers should be able to perform their duties without fear,” he said.

His remarks came days after reports that three Indian crew members were killed in a US military strike on a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Oman.

Modi also underlined the importance of trust in international relations, stating that in today’s interconnected world, trust has become the most important strategic asset.

“Technology, supply chains and global institutions must serve the common good and not be used as tools for narrow interests,” he said, adding that trust was essential for global progress and stability.

Highlighting the concerns of developing nations, the Prime Minister said countries of the Global South seek equal partnerships rather than dependency.

“The Global South wants to be a partner in development, not merely a beneficiary. Partnership must be based on dignity and equality,” he said.

Modi also spoke about India’s development model, saying the country’s approach is guided by the principle of “Humanity First” and the vision of “Sarv Jan Hitaye, Sarv Jan Sukhaye” (welfare and happiness for all).

On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi exchanged pleasantries and held a brief interaction with US President Donald Trump ahead of their scheduled bilateral meeting.

The Prime Minister also met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and discussed strengthening cooperation in trade, energy, innovation, education and people-to-people exchanges.

According to officials, the discussions focused on enhancing bilateral engagement and expanding partnerships across key sectors. (JKNS)
