Srinagar, Jun 8 (JKNS): Bhartiya Janta Party State Spokesperson, Arun Kumar Gupta on Monday said that the foundation of democratic governance lies in abiding by public preferences and honoring commitments made before, during, and after elections in India.
Gupta in a press statement issued as per news agency JKNS, The citizens of India, based on their understanding of a political party, decide to give a mandate for representation in Parliament or the State Assembly.
Very conveniently forgetting the spirit of the mandate and promises made, alliances often start working towards fulfilling their personal agendas. Such practices have become a thing of the past, and now citizens are far more aware of their democratic rights and the importance of choosing a government that governs well.
Misgovernance is now viewed very seriously by the citizens of this country. Political convenience begins to dominate functioning, resulting in the abandonment of promises made and thereby deceiving the citizens who voted for their able and just representation. The INDIA Alliance is a perfect example of how the mindset of remaining in power has overtaken all alliance partners, who have come together with no agenda other than gaining power, said Arun Kumar Gupta.
The agenda appears to be returning to power by any means, thus betraying the citizens who voted for them to speak in their favour on various platforms, including Parliament and State Assemblies, and to hold the government accountable. This is nowhere to be seen.
The strength of any alliance should be used to monitor the functioning of the government and suggest ways to improve governance for the betterment of citizens. On the contrary, the strength is being used to work against the interests of the country. Every time the so-called INDIA Alliance meets, it appears focused only on reassuring its partners and reworking its strategy to take on the BJP, stated Arun Kumar Gupta.
It is important for any country to have a strong opposition. Contributing to national growth through constructive suggestions and healthy criticism is equally necessary for course correction and democratic strengthening.
It is high time for the INDIA Alliance to start respecting the mandate of the people and fulfil their aspirations through constructive contributions.
The manner in which the electorate has, in one state election after another, given a clear mandate to the BJP is a testimonial to the recognition of good governance in the country. Citizens are in no mood to be misled by the politics of convenience pursued by parties with fixed personal agendas and an unending race to grab power by whatever means available, concluded Arun Kumar Gupta.
