New Delhi, June 7 (JKNS): Consumers across the country will have to pay more for cooking gas as the price of domestic LPG cylinders has been increased by ₹29 per 14.2-kg cylinder with effect from June 7, marking the second hike in the last three months.
According to reports available with news agency JKNS, the price of a standard domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has been revised from ₹913 to ₹942.
The latest increase comes after a ₹60-per-cylinder hike announced in March this year, amid rising international energy prices and supply disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
State-run oil marketing companies continue to face heavy losses on domestic LPG sales despite the recent revisions, with under-recoveries estimated at around ₹703 per cylinder before the latest hike.
The LPG revision is part of a broader increase in fuel prices witnessed in recent weeks. Petrol and diesel prices have reportedly gone up by a cumulative ₹7.50 per litre since mid-May, while CNG rates have risen by nearly ₹6 per kilogram.
Sources further indicated that oil companies are still selling petrol and diesel below actual cost, resulting in substantial losses amid continued volatility in global crude oil markets.
The government has so far refrained from fully passing on the burden of higher international fuel prices to consumers, with a portion of the increased costs being absorbed by state-owned fuel retailers. (JKNS)
