Srinagar, Jun 6 (JKNS): Islamic Global School (IGS), Padshahi Bagh, Srinagar, successfully organized the Inter-School Cycling Championship 2026, bringing together students from various reputed educational institutions across District Srinagar in a spirited celebration of fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The championship commenced in the early morning from Dalgate and culminated with a felicitation and prize distribution ceremony at Nigeen Park. Throughout the event, participants displayed remarkable endurance, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit, reflecting the growing interest in cycling and outdoor sports among students.
The programme was graced by several distinguished guests, including Dr. G. N. War, Patron, Private Schools Association Jammu & Kashmir; Mr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, President, Private Schools Association; Mr. Adil Habib, President, District Srinagar Private Schools Association; Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad, President, District Srinagar Cycling Association; Ms. Urooj Qadiri, Principal, Islamic Global School; and Ms. Syed Rufaida Jan, Project Head and Genagogy Compound In-charge.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. G. N. War lauded the efforts of the school management and the Physical Education Department of Islamic Global School for organizing a meaningful sporting event that promotes physical well-being and healthy competition among students.
Special appreciation was extended to the Physical Education Department, particularly Mr. Waseem Raja, for his dedicated coordination, meticulous planning, and successful execution of the championship.
The participating institutions included Islamic Global School, Green Valley Educational Institute Illahibagh, Bilaliya Educational Institute Lal Bazar, New RP School Zakura Crossing, Oasis School of Education Nowgam, Legends School of Education Hazratbal, Crescent School of Education Natipora, Muslim Public School Rajbagh, Saint Solomon School Illahibagh, Candid Higher Secondary School Nowgam, and Flying Machine Cycling Club HMT Srinagar.
To ensure the safety of all participants and maintain a level playing field, strict race guidelines were followed throughout the event. Participants were permitted to use only MTB and ranger-type bicycles, while road bikes and racing cycles were not allowed.
The championship concluded with the distribution of prizes, medals, and certificates, followed by words of encouragement from the guests. The event was organized with the objective of promoting physical fitness, discipline, healthy competition, and a vibrant sports culture among students.
Expressing her gratitude, Principal Ms. Urooj Qadiri thanked all participating schools, staff members, volunteers, parents, and officials for their invaluable support in making the event a grand success. She emphasized that the primary objective of organizing the championship was to encourage students to engage in healthy and constructive activities while steering them away from harmful habits such as excessive mobile phone usage and drug abuse, which pose serious challenges to the younger generation.
She further highlighted that the event embodied the school’s commitment to fostering sportsmanship, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and a strong sporting culture among students, thereby contributing to their holistic development. (JKNS)
