Reports reaching news agency JKNS that Ashraf’s body was spotted in the Aamad area of Pahalgam by locals, following which police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and retrieved the body from the river.

Ashraf had gone missing nearly a week ago after reportedly jumping into the river to rescue his son from drowning. While his son was saved, Ashraf was swept away by the strong currents, triggering a massive search operation by police, SDRF personnel and local volunteers.

The recovery of his body ended days of anxious waiting for the family and relatives, who had been hoping for a miracle since the incident.

Officials said the body was shifted for medico-legal formalities, while police have initiated further proceedings in the matter. (JKNS)
