MC Beerwah Kicks Off Week-Long World Environment Day Campaign

Beerwah, Jun 5 (JKNS): Municipal Committee Beerwah on Friday marked World Environment Day 2026 at Town Hall Beerwah by launching a series of awareness and community engagement activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, cleanliness, and climate action.

The programme was attended by members of the Traders Federation Beerwah, senior citizens, social activists, educationists, and local residents from across the area. Prominent educationist Mangeet Singh Gill also participated in the event and addressed the gathering on the importance of environmental protection.

 

 

 

 

The programme is being organized under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban 2.0 (SBM-U 2.0) in collaboration with the Housing and Urban Development Department, Jammu & Kashmir.

 

 

 

 

The campaign highlights the importance of environmental conservation and encourages active public participation in maintaining a clean and green environment.

 

 

 

 

As part of the observance, a week-long schedule of activities has been planned, including awareness drives on waste segregation, cleanliness campaigns, plantation drives, exposure visits to waste management facilities, market-area advocacy programmes, youth engagement initiatives, and community mobilization activities.

 

 

 

 

Officials of the Municipal Committee Beerwah emphasized the need for collective responsibility in addressing environmental challenges and urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. They noted that public cooperation is essential for achieving sustainable development and creating healthier communities.

 

 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion, educationist Mangeet Singh Gill said that World Environment Day serves as a reminder of the responsibility shared by every individual to protect and preserve the environment. He urged people to adopt environmentally responsible habits and contribute towards safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

 

 

 

 

The World Environment Day campaign is being conducted under the theme #NowForClimate, reflecting the growing need for climate-conscious actions and environmental stewardship.

 

 

 

 

Municipal Committee Beerwah appealed to residents, educational institutions, traders, and civil society organizations to actively participate in the planned activities and contribute towards building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. (JKNS)
