He was speaking at the Unsung Everyday Heroes Awards 2026 (Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh), organised by The Art of Living, which seeks to recognise and celebrate individuals and institutions making silent yet impactful contributions to society. The initiative also marks the beginning of an annual tradition aimed at honouring grassroots changemakers and fostering a culture of service and compassion.

The event was attended by MLA Chenani Balwant Singh Mankotia,State Election Commissioner Shantmanu along with distinguished guests, social workers, and awardees from across the region.

The Minister emphasized that the true strength of a society lies not merely in policies and programmes, but in the values and intent of its people. “No government scheme alone can transform a society; real change begins with a transformation of the human heart,” he said.

Highlighting the growing challenge of drug abuse among youth, Satish Sharma termed it one of the gravest threats facing Jammu & Kashmir. He stressed that enforcement alone cannot curb the menace and underscored the need for value-based interventions, awareness, and community participation. “A young person with purpose does not seek escape. The real solution lies in restoring confidence, direction, and inner strength among our youth,” he added.

The Minister appreciated the efforts of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and The Art of Living for their sustained work in promoting mental well-being, social harmony, and human values globally. He noted that initiatives such as youth programmes, wellness practices, and community outreach play a vital role in guiding young minds towards positivity and resilience.

Speaking on the essence of selflessness, he observed that true service does not seek recognition but is driven by compassion and duty. In an age increasingly shaped by individualism and social media validation, he said, quiet acts of service carry even greater significance.

Reiterating the government’s commitment, Satish Sharma said that empowering youth, promoting social responsibility, and fostering innovation-led development—particularly in IT, sports, and community welfare—remain key priorities. He added that such platforms inspire citizens, especially the younger generation, to contribute meaningfully to society.

The ceremony concluded with the felicitation of several unsung heroes whose dedication and service continue to inspire communities across Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. (JKNS)
