The MLA was received by Ravinder Pandita, Chairman of the Save Sharda Committee Kashmir, along with Ajaz Khan, coordinator, Mahaveer Thussu, and a large number of local residents.

This visit marked Mehdi’s fifth to the Sharda Temple and his first after assuming office as an MLA. During the visit, he also inspected the crossing bridge near the LoC and reiterated his party’s commitment to advocating for the reopening of the historic Sharda Peeth in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. He stated that facilitating access to Sharda Peeth remains an important component of the PDP’s election manifesto and is essential for reviving cultural and religious ties.

Earlier, a group of students from Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKAUST) visited the site and were briefed about its historical and cultural significance by Ravinder Pandita. The students showed keen interest in the heritage complex, which comprises a temple and a gurudwara, situated in the last village of India along the LoC.

The visit highlighted ongoing efforts to preserve and promote the region’s rich cultural heritage while reinforcing calls for cross-border access to Sharda Peeth, regarded as an ancient centre of learning and spirituality.(JKNS)
