Srinagar, Apr 10 (JKNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday warned that Jammu and Kashmir is facing a critical phase with increasing attempts to lure youth into drug abuse, and announced a time-bound 100-day anti-drug awareness to curb the growing menace through a coordinated and society-wide response.

As per news agency JKNS, the Lieutenant Governor said that a comprehensive strategy has been put in place, bringing together multiple government departments, police and security agencies to dismantle drug networks and intensify enforcement against narcotics across the Union Territory.

He said the campaign will be formally launched on April 11 at MA Stadium Jammu, where representatives from civil society, political groups, youth, teachers, sportspersons and social activists will participate and take a collective pledge against substance abuse.

“Drug addiction is not merely a law-and-order concern but a grave danger to the future of our youth. This fight cannot be left to institutions alone—it must become a people’s movement,” he said, calling for active public participation.

The Lieutenant Governor observed that despite ongoing initiatives like the Nasha Mukta Bharat campaign, the persistence of the problem demands a more aggressive and synchronised approach. He said the administration will strengthen action against drug peddlers while simultaneously expanding awareness drives and community engagement programmes.

He further stated that he would personally visit various districts to mobilise public support, underlining that the success of the अभियान depends on collective responsibility and grassroots involvement. Describing the initiative as “purpose-driven,” he urged citizens to take ownership and lead efforts towards building a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
