A rescue team led by Lt Col Chandan Mehta undertook the difficult mission in adverse conditions, including poor visibility, rugged terrain and high risk factors.

Given the terrain, a vertical lift was not feasible, prompting the team to establish a 70-metre zip line to safely retrieve the injured individual while ensuring minimal movement to avoid aggravating the injury.

The operation was successfully completed at around 3:30 am, after which the rescued tourist was immediately shifted to Government Hospital Ooty for further medical treatment, officials said. (JKNS)
