Srinagar, Mar 7 (JKNS): National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said that India must take its own decisions and should not allow any external power to influence its policies, reacting to the US waiver allowing Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, as per news agency JKNS, Abdullah said, the country should remain independent in its decision-making and determine what is best for its interests. “We are not dependent. The tragedy is I do not know why they are making us dependent. It is a question of the independence of this country,” he said.

He added that India must decide its own future and should not allow others to dictate its choices. Referring to the tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Abdullah said that during discussions on the civil nuclear deal, Singh had asserted that India would take decisions based on its national interest.

Meanwhile, India has confirmed that it will continue importing Russian oil following a temporary waiver granted by the United States amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. (JKNS)
