Srinagar, Mar 5 (JKNS): Kavinder Gupta on Thursday tendered his resignation from the post of Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, nearly nine months after assuming office.

Sources privy to the development told news agency JKNS that Gupta submitted his resignation this evening, while remaining tight-lipped about the reason behind the move.

The development comes shortly after C. V. Ananda Bose resigned from his post as Governor of West Bengal.

Speaking on his appointment earlier before nine months, Gupta had stated that he would work collectively with all stakeholders to ensure development and progress in the Union Territory.

Gupta had taken oath as the third Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory on July 18, 2025.

His tenure came at a time when the region witnessed increasing protests by civil society groups, including the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance, which have been demanding statehood for Ladakh, safeguards under the Sixth Schedule, and job reservations for local residents. (JKNS)
