Jammu, Feb 17 (JKNS): The Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that there is presently no policy in vogue for fresh recruitment of Rehbar-e-Taleem (RET) teachers in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a reply to a question tabled by MLA Rajiv Jasrotia regarding regularization of lecturers and matters related to recruitment, continuation and transfer of RETs as per news agency JKNS, minister in charge Sakina Itoo said, the erstwhile RET Scheme has been discontinued and all eligible RETs appointed under the previous policy have already been regularized and transitioned as Teacher Grade-II and Grade-III in a phased manner in accordance with government orders.

The issues concerning continuation and transfer of RETs were described as policy-oriented and falling within the domain of higher authorities.

The government also clarified that no RET teacher has been attached or deployed in District Jammu. However, services of some RRET teachers from schools merged or co-located due to low or zero enrolment or building constraints are being utilized in nearby needy schools as per the prescribed Pupil-Teacher Ratio (PTR).

With regard to regularization of adhoc, contractual and academic arrangement lecturers who have rendered five years of uninterrupted service, the government stated that the matter is policy-oriented and lies within the jurisdiction of higher authorities.

On vacancies in District Jammu, the government informed that 40 posts of Headmasters, 258 posts of Lecturers and 266 posts of Masters are vacant. No vacancies were reported in the categories of Principals and Teachers. It was further stated that out of 266 vacant Master posts, 85 posts are being utilized for drawal of salary in respect of surplus Masters. (JKNS)
