17.27 Lakh Kanals of State Land Under Encroachment in J&K; 14.29 Lakh Kanals Retrieved: Govt

Srinagar, Feb 17 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday disclosed in the Legislative Assembly that more than 17.27 lakh kanals of state land have been encroached upon across Jammu and Kashmir, while over 14.29 lakh kanals have been successfully reclaimed so far.

Responding to a query raised by MLA Sham Lal Sharma, the Revenue Department informed the House, as per news agency JKNS, that a total of 17,27,248.16 kanals of state land were identified as encroached in both divisions combined.

The official figures reveal that in the Kashmir division, 3,27,198.50 kanals were found under encroachment, out of which 2,16,912.98 kanals have been retrieved. In the Jammu division, 14,00,049.66 kanals were encroached, and authorities have managed to recover 12,12,287.44 kanals.

The government stated that eviction drives are ongoing to reclaim the remaining encroached land. (JKNS)
