“In 2025, a total of 31 terrorists were eliminated, of which around 65 percent were of Pakistani origin,” he said, adding that the three terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack were neutralised during Operation Mahadev.

The Army Chief said the number of active local terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir has dropped to single digits, while recruitment into terrorist ranks is “almost non-existent,” with only two cases reported in 2025.

“These are clear indicators of positive change in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, pointing towards ongoing development works, revival of tourism and the peaceful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra.

He said the annual pilgrimage witnessed participation of over four lakh devotees this year, surpassing the average of the past five years. “The theme of terrorism to tourism is gradually taking shape,” he said.

General Dwivedi said Operation Sindoor remains ongoing and cautioned that any future misadventure would be dealt with firmly. “A future misadventure will be resolutely responded to,” he asserted.

Terming Operation Sindoor as a model of jointness, the Army Chief said it was “the best example of tri-service synergy under a clear political directive and full freedom to act or respond,” adding that the Army successfully destroyed seven out of nine identified targets and remains prepared for any ground action if required.

He also acknowledged the role of various stakeholders in maintaining peace and stability. “I must acknowledge the proactive role of all stakeholders at the national level, including CAPFs, intelligence agencies, civic bodies, the state administration and other ministries,” he said.

General Dwivedi added that effective coordination among security agencies, supported by civil authorities, has been key to managing the overall security environment and will continue to remain crucial in the days ahead. (JKNS)
