MHA Clears DIG, IGP Promotions for AGMUT IPS Officers; J&K Officers Among Elevated

New Delhi, Dec 19 (JKNS): The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved promotions of several Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of the AGMUT cadre to the ranks of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and Inspector General of Police (IGP), with a significant number of officers from Jammu and Kashmir featuring in the list.

According to two separate orders issued on December 19 as per news agency JKNS, the promotions were sanctioned on the basis of recommendations made by the Screening Committee in its meeting held on December 8, 2025. The promotions will come into effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date the officers assume charge, whichever is later.

In the DIGP rank, 20 IPS officers of the 2012 batch of the AGMUT cadre, currently serving in the cadre, have been promoted to Level 13-A of the Pay Matrix. The promoted officers include Manoj Kumar Meena, Sargun Shukla, Rohit Meena, Nidhin Valsan, Abhishek Dhania, Ravi Kumar Singh, Devesh Kumar Mahla, Jitendra Kumar Meena, Rajesh Deo, Rakesh Paweriya, Bhisham Singh, Rajeev Ranjan, Mohammed Ali, Dingluaia, Sandeep Wazir, Anita Sharma, Jatinder Singh Johar, Swarn Singh Kotwal, Zahid Nasim Manhas and Dr Koshal Kumar Sharma.

Among those elevated to DIG rank, officers from Jammu and Kashmir include Sandeep Wazir, Anita Sharma, Jatinder Singh Johar, Swarn Singh Kotwal, Zahid Nasim Manhas and Dr Koshal Kumar Sharma. Additionally, Sandeep Choudhary, also from J&K and presently on Central Deputation, has been granted proforma promotion.

Meanwhile, four AGMUT cadre IPS officers of the 2012 batch serving on Central Deputation M Harsha Vardhan, Dr Navdeep Singh Brar, Sandeep Choudhary and Guriqbal Singh have also been accorded proforma promotion to the DIGP rank. Their actual promotion will take effect once their immediate juniors take charge in the cadre.

In another order, the MHA approved promotions of IPS officers of the 2008 batch of the AGMUT cadre to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Level 14 of the Pay Matrix. Officers promoted on a regular basis include Chinmoy Biswal, Tejinder Singh, Sanjay Kumar Tyagi and Ajay Krishan Sharma.

Tejinder Singh, who belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, is among those promoted to the IGP rank.

Further, six IPS officers of the 2008 batch presently on Central Deputation Atul Kumar Thakur, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Anto Alphones, Devender Arya, Abdul Jabbar and Udayabhaskar Billa have been granted proforma promotion to the IGP rank with effect from January 1, 2026. Abdul Jabbar and Udayabhaskar Billa, both from Jammu and Kashmir, are included in this list.

The orders have been issued with the approval of the competent authority, the Ministry of Home Affairs said. —(JKNS)
