Cold Wave Tightens Grip: Srinagar Drops to –4.4°C, Shopian to -6.5°C, Zojila to -16°C

Srinagar, Nov 27 (JKNS): A severe cold wave gripped Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Wednesday night, with most areas in the Valley witnessing a sharp drop in minimum temperatures, data compiled by Kashmir Weather revealed.

As per details available with the news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded the season’s coldest night at -4.4°C, while Shopian remained among the coldest places in the Valley at -6.5°C. Pulwama and Baramulla both touched -5.8°C, Pampore -5.5°C, and Anantnag -5.7°C.
The Srinagar Airport belt settled at -5.2°C, and famed hill spot Pahalgam recorded -5.0°C.

Other major stations remained in deep freeze: Budgam -4.6°C, Bandipora -4.5°C, Qazigund -4.0°C, Awantipora -4.0°C, Sonamarg -4.0°C, and Ganderbal -3.3°C.
Kokernag stood slightly warmer at -1.6°C, while Gulmarg registered -1.0°C.
Kulgam recorded -2.4°C, and Zethan Rafiabad dipped to -5.2°C.

The coldest point overall remained Zojila Pass, where temperatures plunged to an extreme -16.0°C.

In the Jammu region, plains continued to stay above freezing: Jammu 8.7°C, Katra 8.5°C, Kathua 8.2°C, and Jammu Airport 10.1°C.
Upper reaches, however, stayed colder with Banihal -1.5°C, Bhaderwah 0.4°C, Batote 4.0°C, Ramban 4.1°C, Rajouri 2.0°C, Kishtwar 3.4°C, Reasi 6.9°C, Samba 6.9°C, and Udhampur 4.6°C.

In Ladakh, winter conditions tightened further as Leh recorded -8.6°C, Kargil -9.5°C, and Nubra -7.7°C. (JKNS)
