Srinagar, Oct 20 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday launched a scathing attack on the National Conference (NC), accusing it of betraying the people of Jammu and Kashmir and perpetuating dynastic politics.

Speaking to reporters in Budgam, Sharma as per news agency JKNS said the NC has repeatedly failed to deliver on its promises, leading voters to look for credible alternatives. “The National Conference has deceived the people of Jammu and Kashmir for decades. Recently, it even backtracked on the issue of smart meters. The public has lost faith in the party and is now seeking change,” Sharma said, as per news agency JKNS.

He alleged that the Abdullah family has monopolized power for generations, and that the people have now started rejecting such family-driven politics. “A political movement has begun in Kashmir against family dominance. The National Conference will soon collapse like a pack of cards, and its leaders will scatter,” Sharma remarked.

Criticizing what he termed as NC’s “double standards” on governance and public issues, Sharma said, “Those who live in luxury can never understand the struggles of poor people.”

He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committed to implementing pro-poor policies envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the grassroots level. “The BJP will ensure that welfare measures reach every household in Budgam and across Kashmir,” he asserted.

The Budgam by-election was announced after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah retained his Ganderbal seat following the 2024 Assembly polls. The BJP has fielded Aga Mohsin as its candidate for the Budgam constituency. (JKNS)
