Five Long-Time Absconders, Including 26-Year Fugitive, Arrested in Major Anantnag Police Crackdown

Anantnag, Oct 17 (JKNS): In a major breakthrough, Anantnag Police have arrested five long-term absconders, including a fugitive who had been evading law enforcement for the past 26 years.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, The arrests were made as part of a sustained crackdown on wanted criminals involved in heinous offences such as abduction, rape, and theft.

Details of Arrested Absconders, Mohd Yasin Wani, S/O Mohd Maqbool Wani, R/O Brenti Batpora Dailgam, A/P Nagam Kokernag — evading arrest in FIR No. 90/2005 under Sections 366, 376 RPC of Police Station Kokernag. Abdul Gani Dar, S/O Juma Dar, R/O Pindobal, A/P Singhpora Ashmuqam — wanted in FIR No. 49/2000 under Section 366 RPC of Police Station Kokernag. Sabir Khatana, S/O Shafi Khatana, R/O Ahlan Gadole — involved in FIR No. 101/1999 under Sections 376, 366, 109 RPC of Police Station Kokernag, it reads.

And other inude, Riyaz Ahmad Gigi, S/O Mohd Qasim Gigi, R/O Lamed, Kulgam — wanted in connection with FIR Nos. 02/2022 and 26/2022 of Police Station Srigufwara under Sections 457, 380, 411, 34, 201 IPC and Manzoor Ahmad Bakerwal, S/O Kaloo Bakerwal, R/O Jorda Arnas Reasi, A/P Noorpora Tral — involved in the same FIRs (02/2022 and 26/2022) under Sections 457, 380, 411, 34, 201 IPC, it reads.

Statement reads, five accused were produced before the concerned Hon’ble Courts and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

The arrests, police said, reflect their continued efforts to bring long-term offenders to justice and maintain law and order in the district, it reads. (JKNS)
