India Champions Global South’s Voice in New York, Pushes BRICS and IBSA to Defend Multilateralism
New York, USA – External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar reinforced India’s diplomatic agenda on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), hosting a pivotal meeting of the BRICS Foreign Ministers and attending other crucial multilateral engagements.
Addressing the BRICS ministers, Dr. Jaishankar affirmed the group’s role as a “strong voice of reason and constructive change” amidst the strain on multilateralism. He urged the bloc to strengthen the message of peacebuilding, dialogue, diplomacy, and adherence to international law in an increasingly turbulent global environment.
A key focus of the BRICS meeting was the collective push for comprehensive reform. Dr. Jaishankar emphasized that BRICS must “amplify its collective call for a comprehensive reform” of the principal organs of the United Nations, particularly the UN Security Council (UNSC).
